Crude oil flows from the Permian Basin to the U.S. Gulf Coast rebounded in May, reaching the highest monthly figure on record after two consecutive months of decline. May volumes rose by 250 Mb/d compared to the previous month, totaling 5.76 MMb/d. Flows to Houston and Corpus Christi increased, while Nederland saw a decline.
Houston, the primary beneficiary of Permian Basin oil production growth, saw volumes increase by 245 Mb/d to reach 2.58 MMb/d, the third highest month behind February and March. All Permian-to-Houston pipe posted month-on-month gains. Flows to Corpus Christi totaled 2.4 MMb/d, marking its second-highest month, trailing only March 2023. With Permian-to-Corpus pipelines near full capacity, further increases will be limited until the Gray Oak expansion adds 80 Mb/d of capacity in April 2025. Meanwhile, volumes to Nederland fell by 5%, but remained consistent with the year-to-date average.
